Sallie Mae is an Organization that gives out unique scholarships and many other types of college grants. Their primary criteria revolves around economic statuses. If you can’t get a loan elsewhere, this fund is here to help.
The Sallie Mae Fund strives to get the people who are driven enough to succeed, but can’t afford the education any other way, the degree they deserve, and have so far given out more the 3 billion dollars in scholarships annually.
The organization has helped more than 4,000 potential students afford schooling and distributed $10 million worth of scholarships. What Kinds of Scholarships Can You Get? Scholarships for Unmet Needs
If your family makes less than $30,000 a year, you qualify for this scholarship. You’ll also qualify if you need $1,000 or more to take care of your schooling. If you have a minimum GPA of 2.5, and need financial help, you can get this scholarship, provided you’re a full time college student. You get get almost $4,000 in scholarships. If you need money for school and are African-American, the United Negro College Fund and Sallie Mae have joined forces to get you this scholarship. You have to be a U.S. citizen, you must be able to qualify for a Pell Grant, and also be a full-time student with at least a 2.5 GPA. You can get up to $5,000 in scholarships here. After the events of September 11, 2001, this particular scholarship was created. If a loved one of yours died or was made crippled by those events directly, you qualify. You must be a full-time student to qualify for this scholarship. If you keep up your grades, you can get $2,500 a year, every year you are in school. First In My Family Scholarship
The Hispanic College Fund helped created this scholarship with Sallie Mae. If you are Hispanic, need help with financing your education, and are the first person in your family to go to college, this is for you. U.S. citizens are eligible, if they have a 3.0 GPA, are Hispanic, and are a full-time college student. You can get up to $5,000 for this scholarship. Community College Transfer Scholarship
The Hispanic Scholarship Fund also helped created this program with Sallie Mae. If you are Hispanic, and are going to a four-year university from community college, you qualify. You have to be a citizen of the United States with at least a 3.0. You can get up to $2,500 for this one.
The National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education partnered with Sallie Mae for this program. You can get a $5,000 scholarship if you win an essay contest and attend a predominately black college or university, or an Historically Black college. That particular winner’s school can even get a grant for $20,000 !
You can even get $1,000 scholarships from The Sallie Mae Fund for intending to go to college, if you attend a “Paying for College” workshop. Dollars for Doers is another program sponsored by the organization, in which Sallie Mae’s workers can work volunteer hours in order to qualify for a $250 grant to use for attending college.
The Matching Gifts, The Bus Tour, and Building Hope are even more of the wonderful programs that Sallie Mae offers, but few know about. For those who do know about them, though, they are eternally thankful for the change to go to college.
